10 Upcoming Movies With Troubled Productions

Dark Phoenix will hit theaters sooner than any film on this list as the worldwide release is only a couple weeks away. We may be nearing the end of the countdown, but this is not the first time we've had it mark on the calendar.

Dark Phoenix was originally planned for a March 2018 launch, but was pushed back a total of 15 months for reshoots. Films undergoing reshoots is not out of the ordinary, but films are not always delayed as a result, much less for such an extended period of time. This suggests the effort was more extensive and drastic than Fox let on.

It has also proven to be more expensive. Due to reshoots, the budget for Dark Phoenix has been rumored to be as high as $200 million, which would not only be the most expensive X-Men movie to date, but would cost more than the great majority of comic book films to date.

If that estimate is true, Fox, and their new parent company Disney, could be in for a drawback. With roughly two weeks before its debut, Dark Phoenix is tracking for a $50 million domestic opening, which would be the lowest of any X-Men title.

Maybe the reshoots will be worth it and Dark Phoenix turns into the surpise hit of the summer. Either that or the studio is eager to put this iteration of the X-Men behind them. We will find out soon enough.
