10 Upcoming Movies You Are NOT Ready For
7. Blonde
An incoming project centred around the life of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe is never going to be lacking when it comes to publicity. But the news of Andrew Dominik's Blonde flick, based on the titular 2000 biographical fiction novel, being handed a rare NC-17 recently caused more of a stir than usual.
Sitting as Netflix's first-ever film to receive this extreme rating, Dominik would confess to Screen Daily that “It’s a demanding movie — it is what it is, it says what it says. And if the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office.”
It's also worth noting that the movie's star Ana de Armas, bringing a version of Monroe into being that actor Jamie Lee Curtis would quickly celebrate by stating "Ana was completely gone. She was Marilyn", added how she didn't understand why the film had been branded with its NC-17 rating.
But Armas would also go on to note, "Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one," suggesting that this particular Marilyn story doesn't intend to pull any uncomfortable punches and will no doubt shock and unsettle a great many upon its eventual release later this month.
