10 Upcoming Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Books

9. In The Heart Of The Sea

As an adaptation, In The Heart Of The Sea is a bit confusing. From the poster, it appears to be an adaptation of Herman Melville's epic American novel Moby Dick, with Chris Hemsworth poised at the centre in the role of Ishmael. Not quite. In The Heart Of The Sea is actually the title of a non-fiction book by Nathaniel Philbrick, which recounts the true story of the sinking of the Essex whaling ship at the hands of a giant sperm whale. Melville actually based much of his own Moby Dick on the sinking of the Essex, but the upcoming flick - directed by Ron Howard - is an adaptation of the Philbrick work. The crew were stranded for over 90 days following the attack, by the way, which - of course - will make for great drama and therefore great cinema. In short, then (and in case you're still a bit confused about this project), it's basically a film about the true story that inspired Moby Dick. With Chris Hemsworth.
