10 Upcoming Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Books

8. Everest

A lot of people have met their end attempting to conquer the likes of Everest, and cinema likes to remind us this from time to time with another harrowing movie depicting an ill-judged mission to reach the top. The latest in the long line of "mountain expedition gone wrong" movies is likely to be the daddy of them all. It's even called "Everest," as if to mark itself out as the definitive product. The movie, directed by Baltasar Kormákur (known best for action flick 2 Guns), stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington, Robin Wright, Josh Brolin, and John Hawkes in what must be one of the greatest ensemble casts to have assembled in a long time. Everest is set to recount the tale of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, which led to the tragic deaths of eight people, and is based on the non-fiction book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. So, yes, this is bound to be a harrowing viewing experience from beginning to end, based on what folk already know of the premise. But hey, it's also in 3D. Swings and roundabouts, people!
