10 Upcoming Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Books

3. Home

What do you get when you put Rihanna, Steve Martin, Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez in the same movie? Something called Home, apparently. This upcoming animated comedy flick is based on a children's book called The True Meaning Of Smekday, which was presumably deemed too wacky a title and changed to something a little less impenetrable: "Home" is what they came up with. The original source material was written by a guy named Adam Rex; the story inherent to Rex's book is downright crazy, but it involves alien abductions, kids living without their parents, and characters with names such as "Gratuity Tucci," "Captain Smek" and "J.Lo." Which is why, apparently, they got the actual J-Lo to provide a voice for a character in the movie. How meta! All in all, this looks mental, but given how well-received the original novel was when it was first released into book shops everywhere, there's no reason as to why the filmic adaptation won't turn out to be on par with the likes of How To Train Your Dragon. Hey, this could even spur on a new mega-franchise.
