There's nothing quite like Frankie Freako releasing this year, that's for sure.

From the twisted mind of Psycho Goreman filmmaker Steven Kostanski, this utterly unhinged horror-comedy revolves around a workaholic who calls a party hotline, in turn unleashing a dancing goblin, Frankie Freako, upon him.

This looks like it was dropkicked into our timeline from the 1980s, channelling a gaudy mix of The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, Ghoulies, Howard the Duck, and Gremlins.

Given how rare it is to see such detailed practical puppetry these days, in the year of our lord 2024, we should probably embrace Frankie Freako as the utterly deranged gift that it very clearly is.

But at the same time, if you mistook it for a fever dream you had after indulging in too much fondue one night, nobody could really blame you.

That Kostanski was able to pitch this to people who paid him to make it, in such a conservative time for filmmaking no less is, frankly, incredible.
