If Y2K's premise wasn't enough to make you feel ancient, this news will probably do it - a Britney Spears biopic is currently in development, based on the pop icon's best-selling memoir The Woman in Me.

While Spears' life story has previously been adapted into a junky Lifetime drama, Britney Ever After, this version will be a big-budget studio-backed affair, with Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights) set to direct.

As for who could play Britney? Sydney Sweeney and Millie Bobby Brown are reportedly both being considered.

Though there was always going to be a Britney biopic one day, doesn't it seem incredibly premature? After all, she's just 42 years of age - there's still so much of her life story left to be written.

While Britney's fans might be encouraged to hear that Spears is herself involved with the project, the history of estate-sponsored musician biopics isn't exactly strong, given their tendency to elide unpleasant details and come off as fawning hagiographies.

No matter how it turns out, though, it's bizarre that we're getting a Britney movie when she's barely entered middle age.
