10 Upcoming Remakes That Could Be Better Than The Original
10. WarGames
If there's one subgenre of thriller which has dated terribly in the last few decades, it's those that involve hacking and other computer-related schemes. With technology moving ahead at breakneck speeds it doesn't take long before the tech and the jargon around it sounds as old as the hills. While this is certainly the case for WarGames - just take a look at the "top of the range" map pictured in the image above - there's more thematic substance to John Badham's hugely successful film which could translate very well to a contemporary setting. Centering around a young hacker (Matthew Broderick) who accesses a US military supercomputer, it's a film as much concerned with the folly of nuclear war and the brinkmanship that surrounds it as it is with close up shots of fingers tapping furiously on keyboards. Michael Mann's latest film, Blackhat, certainly had plenty of keyboard tapping as characters explained the plot and was predictably tedious to watch. A new WarGames could rectify this and deliver an up to date thriller relevant in the age of Edward Snowdon.
