10 Upcoming Remakes That Might Actually Be Great
1. Bugonia
Bugonia is the title for the impending remake of Jang Joon-hwan's 2003 sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!, which revolves around a man-child (Shin Ha-kyun) who believes that Earth is on the brink of an alien invasion, and sets about kidnapping the man he thinks is a top-ranking extraterrestrial to prevent it.
There's such a beguiling specificity to this madcap slice of South Korean cinema that it's easy to appreciate how a Hollywood remake would almost certainly strip most of the personality away. Except, of course, that Bugonia is being directed by the great Yorgos Lanthimos, with Jesse Plemons playing the kidnapper role and Emma Stone his victim.
Regardless of your feelings about English-language remakes of classic world cinema, that's an incredible roster, with Alicia Silverstone also set to appear (likely as Plemons' partner). In the very least, Lanthimos is going to deliver a totally uncompromising and brilliantly acted retelling - that's the worst case scenario, but of course, it could be so much more than that.
