10 Upcoming Sequels Nobody Asked For (That Might Be Great)

6. The Purge 5

The Purge Election Year
Universal Pictures

Look, nobody is going to sit here and say that the Purge franchise is anywhere near as exciting as the original idea that the franchise was based upon, but it's consistently made money, so it's no surprise that the studio behind it continues to try and eke out as much profit from the fans as possible even after the fourth Purge movie went back in time for a prequel, seemingly signalling the end of the sequels.

Only, now there's another one coming that James DeMonaco says is going to be the very last one (presumably unless it makes loads of money again and Universal find a way to extend it even more). It might seem like an egregious over-extension, but the way DeMonaco talks about this planned finale actually makes it sound good:

“I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."

If they're going for something definitive as an ending and DeMonaco wants to deliver fireworks, then, you know what, it might well bang.
