1. Untitled Blade Runner Project
For many movie fans, the idea of a sequel to the classic Philip K. Dick adaptation Blade Runner is perhaps one of the most pointless and unnecessary of all time. After all, Ridley Scott's original is about as perfect as science fiction movies come (although it took a few recuts and edits to finally reach that stage). While this might have been true for the most part these last few years, the announcement of Dennis Villeneuve as director puts an entirely new slant on the production. Scott's mojo has been on the wane in recent years, with Prometheus disappointing many fans of the Alien franchise, but Vilileneuve is shaping up to be one of the greatest directors working today, building upon the incredible Incendies with intelligent and thoughtful thrillers such as Prisoners and Enemy. There's a chance that Blade Runner 2 might end up disappointing, but so far the cast and crew involved suggests that, as with the upcoming sequel to The Goonies, those involved are doing everything they can to ensure it lives up to its predecessor. Until proven otherwise fans should give them the benefit of the doubt and await its arrival with hope rather than despair. Anticipation factor: It's a project many consider to be pointless, but Villeneuve is one of the few directors who could do something fresh and original with the concept. Cautious optimism is the way to go. Release date: currently unknown What other sequels are you looking forward to? Why not tell us about them in the comments?
