10 Upcoming Sequels Which Could Actually Be Worth Your Time
8. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Legend
Before the advent of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon no one in the West outside of martial arts movie fandom had ever heard of wuxia films. By the time Ang Lee's martial arts masterpiece had finished in theatres popular culture was once again going crazy for kung fu. The dust has well and truly settled in the years since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon first came out, and kung fu is nowhere near as commonplace in Hollywood movies as it was around the time of The Matrix. Yet the upcoming sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, known as The Green Legend, could potentially revitalise our on-again, off again love affair with ass-kicking martial arts flicks. Ang Lee is no longer on board, but his replacement Yeun Woo-ping knows more than a thing or two about delivering spectacular action - as the fight choreographer for movies like The Grandmaster and the original Crouching Tiger, expecting great things from The Green Legend isn't too much to ask. Anticipation factor: Donnie Yen is a great replacement for Chow Yun-fat, and the only thing potentially stopping this being a hit is the strange distribution deal in place between IMAX and VOD - other mainstream theatres are currently refusing to screen it, which could significantly hurt its chances of matching the original in terms of box office receipts.
