I don't think I'm alone in thinking that 2013 hasn't been a particularly exciting year for films so far, yet with blockbuster season officially kicking off with the release of Iron Man 3 next week, hopefully things are about to get a little more fun. That said, even the blockbuster slate doesn't have a whole lot worth shouting home about - aside from Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and Fast and Furious 6, there's very little holding my interest - rather, I'm taken with just how many blockbusters look like they're doomed to flop. While it's a given that some of these films will rake in the money, there's a good chance they will all tank with critics because they simply seem so unimaginative and lazy. Here are 10 upcoming summer blockbusters doomed to fail...
10. The Hangover Part III
Release Date: May 24th
Why It's Going To Fail: It would be silly to suggest that The Hangover Part III
isn't going to make money after the first film reaped $467m and the sequel earned a ridiculous $581m - after all, it seems like the negative word of mouth surrounding the second film did little to harm its success. Yes, The Hangover Part III is probably going to do pretty well - though I suspect not as well as either of the first two films - but the trailer suggests that it's probably going to be the worst of the three films. Though the formula has been "shaken up" a bit this time - the plot reportedly revolves around breaking Alan out of a mental institution - it seems like all of the lazy, thoughtless staples of the series are there, with no attempt to subvert how tired and cliched it has all become. Expect a Rotten Tomatoes score of between 15 and 25%.
