10 Upcoming Superhero Movies Hollywood Needs To Stop Pretending Will Happen
3. Gotham City Sirens
Even though it's technically part of the DCEU, Suicide Squad and its myriad of in-development spinoffs might as well be considered its own mini-universe at this point. Though David Ayer's film wasn't well received critically, it still remains one of WB's highest-grossing superhero films, with Harley Quinn being a bona-fide pop-culture phenomenon.
It makes sense, then, that the studio immediately greenlit a bunch of projects involving the anti-villain. The two that looked initially the most likely were Gotham City Sirens and Birds of Prey, the former of which was going to be directed by David Ayer himself and would team Harley up with the likes of Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
Since then though it's been put on the back-burner, allegedly in favour of Birds of Prey, which recently nabbed a director in Cathy Yan. Considering the similarities between both projects, though, it's difficult to see both movies getting made, especially when WB have got Suicide Squad 2 and a Harley/Joker film on the cards.
Rumours suggest Sirens has indeed been placed on indefinite hold for now, with WB all but completely dropping the project in favour of the other 20 DC projects they have on the go.
