10 Upcoming Trends That Will Change Movies Forever

1. Trailers That Give Away Even More Of The Movie

One of the most lamented aspects of movie marketing is movie trailers, which practically any card-carrying film buff will agree end up spoiling far too much of just about any movie. A trailer needs to hook audiences, sure, but with spiraling budgets, studios seem more desperate than ever to basically spell out the entire story and show off every set-piece to ensure they have your custom for that opening weekend. If anything, it's actually rather off-putting, because if audiences feel like they've practically seen the whole movie, why would they feel a rush to go and see it rather than just wait for it on Netflix? Furthermore, studios are just too eager to release extensive clips of the film, such that by the time you get to the cinema, it's entirely possible you could already have seen 10-20% of the movie. For movies that really need to jolt their audience, the best option is to just release the opening 6 or 7 minutes online as a tease to hook them, rather than just showing off 10 minutes of footage throughout the film which will detract from the surprise of the experience, as viewers will be anticipating various events happening. If this trend continues, it's going to potentially erode the magic of cinema for a lot of viewers, who can't even watch a trailer for an upcoming movie without having every significant plot point laid out for them. Studios need to have more faith in audiences, for while most casual cinemagoers (who account for most of the market), might not eagerly throw down money on something mysterious they're not sure about, there's no need to give away how the bad guy dies in the freaking trailer. Take Guardians of the Galaxy, a mega-niche movie that was marketed on its personality rather than on what happens to Ronan at the end of the movie, and audiences came out exhilarated and surprised at the journey James Gunn took them on. That is how it's done. Are there any other growing movie trends you've noticed? Shout it out in the comments!\
