10 Upcoming Trends That Will Change Movies Forever

8. 4K

As gorgeous as 1080p HD is, it's eventually going to be replaced by 4K technology, which boasts a tear-inducingly sharp screen resolution (3840—2160), and as you can see from the above comparison screen shot, makes a standard HD image look like a muddy DVD still. Sure, it's something just for the enthusiasts for the foreseeable future (given that many don't care about the difference between SD and HD, let alone HD and 4K), though in the coming years, expect 4K to take off something fierce once the mega-pricey 4K TVs drop in price, 4K broadcasts become more common, and there's an actual disc format for it. There are other problems to tackle, such as the belief in some parts of the industry that there just isn't the demand for 4K, and that the bandwidth required to stream 4K will prove counter-productive, yet as Internet speeds increase and ISPs are through sheer economy forced to remove their bandwidth restrictions, 4K will find a way to exist within the market. Much like how DVD and Blu-ray currently sit side-by-side, expect 4K and HD technology to co-exist rather than one replace the other, but even so, for those who care about catching every minute detail of a movie, it's a fascinating prospect.
