10 Uplifting Movies To Ease The January Blues

5. Groundhog Day

Bill Murray's dour, deadpan facial expressions, as he comes to realise that he's trapped in the same day, doomed to repeat it for what could be an eternity, is exactly the kind of expression that many people had on their faces when they woke up for the first day back at work in 2015. Fortunately, classic miserable Murray is soon bested by the joyful and compassionate spirit of the residents of Puxsutawney, as the endless time loop forces him to get to know everyone better, along with himself. One of the pleasing ironies of Groundhog Day is that it is endlessly watchable, and as we enter the cold winter months there's a lot of sympathy to be had for Murray's character Phil Connors as he frustratedly bashes his alarm clock as each morning repeats itself. Connor's dedication to learning and mastering new skills - whether it's instruments, languages or even winning the heart of the person he loves - should be enough inspiration for everyone to pull themselves out of the doldrums this January and crack on with the year in a more positive manner.
