3. James Gandolfini - True Romance
The second on the list from this wonderful film, and the role that many argue got Gandolfini the gig of Tony Soprano, a career defining honour. Gandolfini cameos as Virgil, a hitman working for Christopher Walkens gangster Vincenzo Coccotti. In one of the most vicious fight outs in cinematic history, Virgil fights to the death in a motel room with gutsy damsel Alabama (Patricia Arquette). He starts out as a charming inquisitor, complimenting her outfit and unbelievably cute features, all with a beaming smile of genuine sincerity. Then before you know it, hes beating her to a bloody pulp to find out where shes hidden a suitcase full of money. Its brutal and persistent violence, with little respite. When he eventually finds the money, he still cant help himself from toying with her some more rather than finishing the job, in turn resulting in his demise. A truly psychotic and mesmerising character in all respects, and an utter legend playing the part. RIP.
