10 Vampire Movie Fates Worse Than Death
1. 30 Days Of Night - Trapped With Vampires In An Unending Night
30 Days Of Night follows a group of people from the Alaskan town Barrow as they enter into the annual Polar Night, where the sun sets for a whole month, throwing the town into a seemingly endless night - which is usually completely normal for the townsfolk fyi.
However the movie uses this seemingly mundane occurrence as the crux of its horror story. When estranged couple Eben and Stella, along with several other town folk, are trapped after the last flight leaves before The Polar Night, the worst possible thing happens: a hoard of vampires swarm the town and cut the power and all communication to the outside world.
Usually in a vampire movie, humans get the upper hand over the villainous blood suckers when the sun rises and the undead have to retreat indoors as to not be burnt to a crisp. In this movie though, there is no hope for the human townspeople. They are stuck, with no escape, with a hoard of monsters that have come to kill them.
We experience the claustrophobic feeling of this situation from the eyes of Eben and Stella. We have to witness the mutilations of their friends and neighbours and we feel the same exhaustion they do as they spend their every waking moment in fear of an attack from the vampires.
It's an inescapable long form of torture, and even if you survive you have to live with that trauma and the knowledge that these monsters could descend whenever the sun sets.
