10 Villains Perfect For The Batman Movie Trilogy (And Who Should Play Them)

2. Deacon Blackfire - Liam Cunningham

Deacon Blackfire Cult
DC Comics

Before Bane broke the Bat physically in Knightfall, Deacon Blackfire broke him mentally. A conman by trade, Blackfire forms a cult in Gotham by brainwashing the homeless living in Gotham’s underworld and their numbers rise and rise until they begin to run riot and wreak havoc across Gotham city.

Batman tries to stop Blackfire but he too falls to his brainwashing techniques and joins the cult while his head is riddled with self doubt and fear. Leaving it all up to Jason Todd to get him to eventually snap out of it. Batman: The Cult is one of the best Batman graphic novels ever written and a simple adaptation of it to film would be phenomenal.

Much like previous entries on this list, using Blackfire would make for a more frightening Batman film but could easily be made a 12A to calm the fears of those studio executives.

Blackfire is a strong presence, he commands the attention of all of Gotham including the Dark Knight himself. For this you would need a strong voice and given his religious attire we'd give him an Irish accent.

Liam Neeson! We hear you cry and yeah we'll give you that, he’d probably be amazing too BUT Neeson already was a brilliant Batman villain as Ra’s Al Ghul and we wouldn’t want that to be challenged. So we can think of no one better than the man someone who could have been mistaken for Neeson in the season finale of Solar Opposites; Liam Cunningham.

Do not think that this is us saying that he’s a good substitute for Neeson, no, we think he’d actually be better. Cunningham’s striking glance would be perfect for looking into the eyes of those he brainwashes and his deep and powerful voice could easily command the masses of Gotham into anarchy.

If you want to see proof of him playing a commanding antagonist, watch The Childhood of a Leader where he plays an abusive father to a future dictator. Oh and by the way... Robert Pattinson’s in it too.
