10 Villains Sony's Spider-Verse Must Introduce (And Who Should Play Them)
9. Hobgoblin (Lakeith Stanfield)
The Green Goblin is one of the greatest villains in Spider-Man lore and in the Marvel universe — so much so that this character overshadows the Hobgoblin more often than not. With a new universe to construct, Sony should rectify this by introducing the Hobgoblin ASAP.
Yes, it would be a welcomed treat if Mark Hamill lent his talents to the character in a live-action film. However, Sony should take this opportunity to shake things up and arm Lakeith Stanfield with a satchel of pumpkin bombs.
Stanfield has a deep desire to play Joker and maybe he should. We've had multiple Jokers and multiple Batmans over the last few years — surely one more couldn't hurt DC any further?
Or Marvel fans can be selfish and let Stanfield create his own iconic character via Hobgoblin. Stanfield can play Roderick Kingsley or Jason Macendale if Sony wants to use the most recognizable names. Better yet, create a brand-new character and let Stanfield have his fun.
A talented actor with the passion and drive to cement his place in comic book movie history (even if his first choice of Joker never comes to pass), Lakeith Stanfield could be game-changing.
