10 Vintage Film Special Effects That Make A Mockery Of CGI
9. Robocop vs. ED 209 Scene - Robocop (1987)
When we first saw this movie as a kid, we all thought stop motion was the coolest thing ever. While the original Robocop may not be the greatest film to highlight the greatness of 80s special effects, we will do so on the heels of the horrendously lame remake that graced our theaters just a few short months ago. There isnt much more to be said about this excellent film that hasn't already been said so lets just stick to one scene in particular. When Robocop confronts the vice-president of OCP (the company that created him), he is then confronted by his counterpart in the form of a cyborg twice his size named ED-209. The battle only lasts a few minutes with ED-209 basically obliterating Robocop until he finds EDs weaknessstairs. Now, compare this scene with the 2014 reboot where Robocop takes on two ED-209s in a flurry of shoddy CGI where you cant tell what the hell is going. We certainly wouldnt buy that for a dollar.
