10 Vintage Film Special Effects That Make A Mockery Of CGI

8. Combat Drop Scene - Aliens (1986)

James Cameron is, of course, no slouch when it comes to innovation in terms of special effects. Cameron took the Alien franchise in a new exciting direction; a truly action-packed adrenaline overdosing spectacle. There are almost too many memorable effects to pick out just one. We have the Stan Winston created Alien Queen or the numerous shootouts with dozens of xenomorphs with acid blood spilling everywhere. Though, today we are going to focus on what is arguably the most innovative shot of the film. Watching the marine combat drop scene out of context you€™ll be forgiving for not really thinking too highly of it. Though, SFX shots as mobile as the deployment of Aliens' dropship didn€™t become widespread practice in Hollywood until the arrival of CGI; this is a truly bold and ambitious piece of film which the makers pull off with immaculate effectiveness.
