10 War Films That Were Basically Just Propaganda
3. Act Of Valour
Top Gun was a fantastic investment for the US Navy. With Act of Valor, they took this formula one step further. Working with directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, the Navy cast active-duty SEALs in the main roles of the film.
The Navy also let directors use Special Ops boats and equipment. With the help of the Navy, Act of Valor portrayed spectacular, realistic action set pieces. And there’s a plot in there somewhere.
While Act of Valor had less-than-stellar reviews it made a huge haul at the box office. One of the common complaints of the film was that the acting was a little stilted. While active-duty SEALs are some extremely impressive individuals, turns out they're not great actors. Who would've guessed?
The film ends with a dedication to every Navy SEAL killed in action since the 9/11 attacks. It’s truly a love letter to the Navy SEALs.
