10 War Films That Were Basically Just Propaganda
4. Top Gun
There’s really only one thing you need to know about the 1986 film Top Gun. Top Gun’s producers, Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer had full cooperation from the US Navy while filming.
Director Tony Scott had unheard-of access to Naval ships and aircraft. And, it cost the producers practically nothing.
The only thing the Navy wanted in return was full script approval. With that, they changed some pivotal deaths in the movie, like Goose dying in an ejector seat accident. Originally Goose was going to die in a mid-air collision.
This cooperation netted massive benefits for the Navy. Top Gun made the career of a Navy fighter pilot look like the sexiest job ever. Ok, who are we kidding? It is the sexiest job ever.
All Top Gun did was put Tom Cruise behind the stick of an F-16 fighter jet. That’s the greatest combination since Saturday met Sunday.
