Many of you will be sick of hearing about Saving Private Ryan, but there is no escaping the fact that it is one of the greatest war movies ever made.

Following the successful Normandy landings of 1944, Captain Miller is assigned a sensitive task: Private James Francis Ryan is to be brought home following the deaths of his three brothers.

Miller departs through hostile occupied France along with seven men from his company to find Private Ryan.

After assaulting an enemy machine gun position, Miller refuses to execute a surviving Germany soldier, allowing him to flee.

Little did Miller know that this would come back to haunt him.

After finding Ryan, the remaining members of Miller's squad help in defending a vital bridge in Ramelle from the oncoming Axis powers.

During the battle, many of Miller's remaining squad and Ryan's paratrooper unit are killed, and just as Miller prepares to destroy the bridge, he is shot by the very same German soldier he had released earlier.

As American armour arrives to drive the German's away, Ryan and Private Reiben wait with Miller as he bleeds out from his injury.
