10 Ways Doctor Strange In Spider-Man 3 Changes Everything

The Sorcerer Supreme is coming to Spider-Man 3, but what does that mean for the MCU's future?

Last night, it was revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise the role of Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3 before taking centre stage in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. Coming on the heels of the news that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Jamie Foxx will reprise the role of Electro, speculation is now running rampant about what this means.

With Doctor Strange at his side, could Tom Holland's Peter Parker be about to embark on his own journey into the Marvel Multiverse? That's certainly not a direction anyone expected the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel to head in, but it's one that could be a game-changer for both the web-slinger and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.

Even if that's not the case, the Sorcerer Supreme having a part to play in Spider-Man 3 is a big deal, and one that's bound to have consequences for this character moving forward.

With that in mind, this feature takes a look at how Doctor Strange's role in the next Spider-Man movie is going to change, well, everything, as Phase 4 continues to unravel. Moving forward, it definitely seems like Spidey's role in the MCU is going to be unlike anything anyone ever expected...

10. Spider-Man's New Mentor

According to the outlet that broke the news about Benedict Cumberbatch joining the cast of Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange will serve as Peter Parker's new mentor in the threequel. They first met during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and while this feels like a misdirect, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's wall-crawler has a habit of gravitating towards father figures.

First, there was Iron Man. Then, Mysterio. However, it seems Quentin Beck's betrayal wasn't enough to put Spidey off seeking out another in the form of Stephen Strange.

It seems Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is taking cues from J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man comic book run (he provided a foreword in that and later borrowed Aunt May learning her nephew's secret identity from it for Spider-Man: Homecoming). In that, Strange was a frequent ally of the hero, and helped him on many a mission.

Giving the webbed wonder a mentor who is one of the MCU's most powerful heroes could help take his abilities to the next level and make him a true, top tier Avenger.
