10 Ways To Get Stupidly Rich (That We Learnt From Movies)
8. Set Up A Hugely Popular Website - The Social Network
The dot com boom of the late 90s and early 2000s was a breeding ground for the tech savvy amongst us to make our mark on the internet - and make a few million in the process. Few other pioneers made quite so much cash as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, the most popular social network website on the net. You might think that a film about the origins of Facebook would be an interminably dull affair; the cinematic equivalent of watching paint dry. The Social Network, thanks to David Fincher's direction and a sharp script, spares audiences from terminal boredom while eschewing fact-based narratives in favour of something lighter and more entertaining. Aspiring entrepreneurs are also offered an insight into the legal ins and outs of the corporate world, even if everything you see in the movie should be taken with a grain of salt. Just as Jordan Belfont made it clear that a lack of conscience can be an incredible bonus if you're after a fortune, so too did Zuckerberg reveal that openly showing contempt for the people receiving your services won't stop them from using it - Zuckerberg's admission that he called users "dumb f*cks" did nothing to reduce the number of Facebook users. It's an aspect of reality Fincher neglected to include in The Social Network.
