Captain America has already proven himself to be more than willing to go the extra mile. From jumping on what he thought was a live grenade in his first movie, to attacking Loki head-on in Stuttgart in the Avengers movie and taking down jets on his own in his second movie, he is brave and heroic to the extreme. Footage from Comic Con of his next appearance in Age of Ultron shows that this has very nearly made him worthy enough to wield Mjolnir - Cap being the only Avenger other than Thor himself who was capable of even budging it. The only way to make Cap even more awesome is to give him the most heroic of deaths - and that could come in the form of facing up to an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos in the third Avengers movie. Cap did this in the comic, despite the fact he was basically standing up to God, and it was awesome. The same would apply on film.
