10 Ways To Make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Not Suck

9. Brotherly Love

The most important thing anyone who approaches this franchise needs to know is that the Turtles are brothers, first and foremost. They fight, they squabble, they bicker, but deep down they all love each other. That kind of camaraderie really felt absent from the reboot. Oh sure, the personalities of the characters and their relationships were paid lip-service to, but overall it just felt like a veneer of who the characters really are. Leo€™s the stoic leader, Raph€™s the trouble-maker, Don€™s the smart guy and Mikey€™s the goofball. These stock characteristics were present, but there was precious little chance to get to know the characters or their relationships. One of the reasons for this was because the Turtles were basically supporting characters in their own film (more on that later). To really get a feel for the brothers and their relationships means having to devote the proper screentime to them. Arguably the best scene in the reboot was when the Turtles were riding in the elevator and they all start beat-boxing. It was a great moment that showcased their youthful characteristics. Or look back to some of the quiet scenes from the very first Turtles movie, like the conversation between Don and Mikey while they€™re waiting for the pizza delivery guy, or when Mike€™s trying to wow April with his impressions and Raph mutters, €œoh no, not Cagney€€ These little moments are what€™s needed to show who these characters are and that they have history.
