10 Ways MCU Movies Nearly Turned Out Completely Different
4. The Wasp's Debut - The Avengers/Captain America: Civil War
Though Hope van Dyne debuted as part of Ant-Man in 2015, she didn't don her superhero costume and start kicking ass until Ant-Man & the Wasp three years later. Her fight with Sonny Burch's crew in the kitchen was a fantastic introduction for the Wasp, but there were several potential other opportunities where she could have made her first appearance.
The first of these came in 2012 as part of The Avengers. Hope's mother Janet was a founding member of the titular team in the source material, and was originally included in the script for the team's first MCU collaboration, but was ultimately cut as there simply wasn't enough room for her.
Four years later, after van Dyne's MCU debut, but before she officially became the Wasp, her name was thrown in the ring for consideration to join Team Cap during Civil War, before the decision was ultimately made to stick with just Scott Lang.
This could have completely changed the dynamics of Ant-Man & the Wasp, since Hope and Scott's relationship wouldn't have broken down thanks to the latter going to Germany alone. However, as great as this would have been, it was probably fair to Peyton Reed, since the Russo brothers already got to play with the Giant Man reveal, it would have possibly been a step too far to give them the Wasp as well.
