10 Ways MCU Movies Were Almost WAY Darker

8. The Cut Suicide Joke From Iron Man

In 2008, Iron Man changed the world of, not only comic book movies, but of the movie industry in general. As well as Jon Favreau's masterpiece kicking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it planted the seed for just about every film studio to build its own shared universe over the next few years.

The final product that made it to cinemas was actually very different to what could have been had some ideas been kept in place. Obadiah Stane may have survived, Howard Stark could have been the villain, and there could have been a much heavier military presence at one stage.

In one scene, a conversation between two military men that was left out of the final cut, two military men spoke about how people would kill themselves for the opportunities that they have been given. In the movie, Rhodey puts a similar point across about how proud he is to be part of the military, but without the reference to people committing suicide.

The line was reportedly fought against by a Pentagon Hollywood liaison, and was eventually changed. Iron Man ended up as one of the greatest movies the MCU has ever put out, and fortunately, the writers helped by removing the line that was in such poor taste.
