In the lead up to Infinity War, after years of teasing Thanos and his quest to collect all six Infinity Stones, no one expected the Mad Titan to fail. There was a general belief that he would fill the gauntlet before the end of the movie, however the movie was still not without its surprises.

The first of these came just minutes into the film, as it was revealed that Thanos acquired the Power Stone off screen. To say that he had to go through an entire planet to get his hands on the Orb, it was incredibly surprising to find that we wouldn't get to see him do it. Particularly as it was the first milestone of his universe-altering quest.

There was an earlier version of the movie, however, where we would have gotten to see Thanos take his fight to Xandar, and destroy the entire planet entrusted to keep the stone safe.

Since, at this stage of his quest, Thanos would not yet have had the ability to snap his fingers and destroy entire armies in an instant, this would have been a true war, the result of which would have been a bloody, and brutal mass genocide. Infinity War was one of the MCU's darker movies, but the addition of the murder of Xandar's entire population would have taken it one step further.
