6. Being A Screenwriter

If you have a dream to be a screenwriter that is awesome. Don't let anyone tell you that it can't be done. With a prolonged dedication to the craft and knowledge of the business you will make it. Just remember that screenwriting is not an art, it is a business. If you want to be an artist write novels or plays. Don't go to film schools either unless you can major in screenwriting which is rare. The problem with being a screenwriter at film school is that everyone thinks that they can write and will proceed to give you their two cents worth about your scripts, when in reality almost none of these people can write nor do they know anything about the craft. The other problem is that thanks to Quentin Tarantino everyone at film school thinks that a writer is also supposed to direct their scripts, a completely ludicrous notion that immediately evaporates on graduation day. Of course, many screenwriters don't want to direct. Some are shy and hate the idea of directing altogether and so their scripts get overlooked fo production while at school. Screenwriters: Most film schools equivalent of being a third wheel.
