10 Ways Phase 3 Could Ruin The Marvel Cinematic Universe

4. By Not Changing Enough

On the other hand, they could have the opposite problem. The likes of Captain Marvel and Black Panther are a long time coming - and audiences now have even longer to wait for them, thanks to Spidey - and whilst Doctor Strange pays lip service to being a different side of the MCU, it'll likely still have a crappy villain and Benedict Cumberbatch, whitest man alive, as the star. For the most part, staying with what they know has worked out for Marvel, but cracks are beginning to show. Thor: The Dark World was nowhere near up to the standards of the other films, with a totally nothing plot and not much personality with which to recommend it. The law of diminishing returns is beginning to set in. Partly that's what Avengers: Infinity War will do, expanding the superhero team's scope to a truly epic cosmic scale as they take on Thanos. But before that, there's still another Captain America film that will most likely be similar to the previous two; Age Of Ultron looks to be more of the same, too (entertaining, but not unique); and there's another Thor yet to go. What they need to do is strike the balance between the old and new.
