10 Ways To Save The Paranormal Activity Franchise

1. Intensity

The Paranormal Activity films tend to be pretty sedate for about 80% of their runtime, indulging in an overlong, laboured set up where the incredulous characters see a minor yet weird event take place, before they suspect that in fact something untoward is going on. Even the "scare" scenes are often static glimpses of something invisible attacking a human, and it's only really the appearances of Katie that truly raise the blood pressure, at least in terms of the first four films. The Marked Ones however had insane stunts, warping rooms, shotgun blasts sending witches flying five feet in the air, superpowers, and was basically way more entertaining than sitting through 10 minutes of silence to see a gust of wind. The latest PA film may not have gotten truly scary until its finale, but it at least made up for this by not boring us in the same fashion as the other films. It kept chugging along at a snappy, excited pace, rather than putting us to sleep with the drudgery of franchise formula. Hopefully PA5 will follow this lead and keep the thrills coming thick, fast and loud. What do you think? Should PA5 follow the beat of The Marked Ones? Or did you prefer the formula that preceded it? Let me know!
