7. A New Director
How much of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise's failings can really be blamed on Marc Webb? (500) Days Of Summer was a fantastic movie, and that alone had comic book fans excited about what he would bring to the table for the reboot and beyond. When it came to action, Webb really nailed that side of things in both of his Spider-Man films, mixing practical effects with CGI to create arguably the definitive big screen Spidey. It was hard to escape the feeling Webb was being held back by Sony in some ways, though. No one really seemed sure what direction the franchise should take, so perhaps Webb simply did the best he could with the material he had to work with. The much talked about point of view scenes were also absent from both films, a decision from higher up without a doubt. Even so, had Sony decided to forge ahead with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 rather than rebooting, a new director probably would have been for the best. Securing a team like Phil Lord and Chris Miller would have inspired confidence from fans who felt let down by the first two movies, and if they had written to boot, then the threequel could have been the first in the series to really please the fans.
