10 Ways Star Wars Episode 8 Will Probably Rip Off Empire Strikes Back

4. Betrayal By A Friend

Of course, the main thing that Lando did in The Empire Strikes Back was betray his pals. Under hefty pressure from the Empire, he assisted Darth Vader in capturing Han and Leia and using them as a trap for Luke. If Rian Johnson wants to borrow plot points from Episode V, this is one of the strongest ones that he could take. There are lots of possibilities for fitting a betrayal like this into Episode VIII. It€™s important to remember that the First Order has mentally fiddled with each of Finn, Poe Dameron and Rey. Maybe one or more of them is now covertly working for the bad guys, whether they know it or not. Nobody knows exactly what those mind-probing machines are capable of, after all. Perhaps they can embed secret orders deep within the subconscious, leading allies to turn on each other a little ways down the road. It€™d be a hell of a twist if one of the heroes of The Force Awakens turned out to be a traitor, wouldn't it? Poe seems most suspicious, when you think about it €“ we don€™t know what he did during large sections of The Force Awakens€™ plot. The writers could easily weave a double agent element into his story if they wanted to. Could it be that The First Order recaptured and programmed him after the crash on Jakku? Only time will tell.
