10 Ways Star Wars: The Last Jedi Was Almost Completely Different

Of all the movies from 2017 - or, y'know, all time - that thousands wish had gone another way, The Last Jedi is right up top. It's very easy to forget that the now-beloved Empire Strikes Back actually released to much the same lack of fanfare, though where 1980's critics lambasted the film for being too "mechanical" or child-friendly, the fans quickly leapt to its defence.
Contrast that to The Last Jedi, and the fans and critics are on completely opposite sides, with neither budging an inch since release. In fact, the ongoing, cumulative Rotten Tomatoes score sits at a 90/50 split from critics to fans, demonstrably highlighting that tens of thousands of fans really didn't get along with Rian Johnson's bold script choices.
Because let it be made common knowledge: Rian Johnson wrote and directed The Last Jedi. He's the first person since George Lucas to have so much create freedom over an entry in the saga, and for better or worse, it shows. Though, with the current opinion on the movie being so conflicted, also know that it could've gone a completely different way entirely...
