10 Ways The DCEU Will Change Without Zack Snyder
7. No More Cinematography Porn
Throughout the history of comic book movies, there are very few examples of films so invested in landscape photography and gorgeous cinematographic moments as Zack Snyder is. For some, that's no more than further indication of the disconnect between his fascination with style over substance, but putting that aside, it's hard not to be impressed with some of his vistas.
In the post-Christopher Nolan age, superhero movies became far less about their locale (even Gotham lost its personality), as individual character arcs, acts of heroism and a war of ideology crept in. Locations became far more about staging set-pieces (aside from Captain America's occasional moist-eyed appreciation of the Brooklyn of his youth), and cinematography became far more about framing and staging the foreground.
Snyder's eye for grand landscape shots and his compositional eye are as great as his decision to swathe them in darkness is infuriatingly baffling, and that side of the visuals of the DCEU will be poorer without him, that's for sure.
