10 Ways The DCEU Will Change Without Zack Snyder

6. Less Muscle

Just as he likes to fetishise violent action, Zack Snyder has a thing about the human body in prime condition. 300 is basically an exercise in gawping at impossible (and unfairly augmented, it seems) abs glistening against a backdrop of war. Sucker Punch has been called one of the most voyeuristic movies ever made. Even Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman have obligatory shirtless scenes that have no bearing on the plot.

It's not accidental: Snyder's muscular approach to story-telling, and his fascination with Herculean heroes is as much of a trademark as his use of Adrenaline Time and slow-motion. These characters aren't meant to be the same as us: that's why his Bruce Wayne is a hulk, why Superman has more muscle mass than could possibly get off the ground, why his superhero costumes seem almost anatomically obsessed with muscle mapping.

But it was always a little wrong. Bruce Wayne shouldn't stand out as a 250 pound bodybuilder - he's supposed to blend in inconspicuously - Superman might have been an alien, but he was supposed to be an everyman, rather than an adonis, and the fetishisation of bodies was always just a bit too much. Without him, you get the sense it won't be quite so pronounced.
