10 Ways The MCU Was Almost Unrecognizable
9. John Krasinski As Captain America
This one...
There were a lot of "almost" castings in the MCU. Charlie Hunnam was the frontrunner to play Thor; Emily Blunt was offered the role of Black Widow; Jason Momoa turned down the role of Drax; Joaquin Phoenix could've played Dr. Strange; and Tom Cruise nearly played Iron Man. All possible, and all fell through.
But among all those potential castings (and so many more), this is the one that gets brought up the most, and for good reason. John Krasinski is an incredibly charming, likable guy, and a very talented actor, to boot.
So why wasn't he Cap? Well, it's a funny story. He got as far as a costume test, and that's when it all ended. By all accounts, there was nothing wrong with the test. But when he saw Chris Hemsworth -- who had gotten thoroughly jacked for his role as Thor -- he bowed out of the role altogether, and that was that.
That's a shame, because he could've brought a real charm to Cap. Of course, Chris Evans was exceptional in the role. He's the Cap we all know and love, so this is for the best. Plus, maybe now Krasinski can pop up as Reed Richards.
