10 Ways The Mission Impossible Movies Keep Getting Better
1. Letting A New Director Handle Each Film
Not a single Mission: Impossible director has returned for another sequel, and that's exactly how it should be. Keeping the same creative team on board, the series could get fatiguing after a few sequels as the energy and creative spark inevitably runs out. Instead, a new director is brought in with instalment to put his creative stamp on the series, inject the franchise with new life, and then get the hell out so someone else can handle it next time.
That's not totally uncommon in action, as evidenced by Bond and Fast & Furious, but both of those still have directors return for multiple films sometimes. Mission: Impossible is one of the few where nobody ever comes back, not even a single screenwriter. Totally overhauling the crew keeps the sequels from getting stale and from recycling the same ideas. With new talent comes new visions that you can't get by keeping everyone on board year after year.
Mission: Impossible 6 is already on the way, and it's exciting to imagine who might tackle the project next. If Christopher McQuarrie were to return, you could probably expect a similar sort of thing as Rogue Nation, but with someone new coming aboard, another movie is full of infinite possibilities. That's precisely what allows these films to not only avoid decline, but to actually improve.
