9. Avoid Needless Romances

I've mentioned this in past articles, specifically relating to the Thor movie and its upcoming sequel, but it applies on a wider scale too; romances in superhero movies are getting extremely boring. 99% of the time, they tend to just feel like pointless sub-plots and typically end up looking extremely contrived. The aforementioned romance between Jane Foster and Thor in the first Thor movie epitomised the contriving of such a relationship. It was so forced, so pointless, so unrealistic and so unrelatable - and the kiss towards the end of the movie came so out of the blue that it was just ridiculous. Trailers for Thor: The Dark World have already confirmed that there's going to be something of a romance going on in the movie, but everyone should cross their fingers that Marvel aren't going to focus on it too much. As a general rule, I don't even mind a good movie romance, but the typical superhero movie-goer isn't looking for this kind of sub-plot and it's becoming very tiresome. Please don't focus on romance too much more, Marvel. I'm begging you.
