10 Ways To Reinvent The Batman Film Franchise After The Dark Knight Rises

9. Batman of the Future

Up to now, the closest the Batman films have come to Sci-Fi is the neon-camp of Batman & Robin and the unforgettable image of George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger surfing through the sky. However, many Batman comic-books have explored the potential of taking Bruce Wayne into the future with far better results. Limited edition comic books like Batman: Year 100 have depicted a futuristic Gotham City, while the popular animated series Batman Beyond sees teenager Terry McGinnis taking over an elderly Bruce Wayne as the new Batman. Much like the potential of exploring the past, taking the series into the future after The Dark Knight Rises would give us something entirely different that we€™ve never seen before on the big screen. Christopher Nolan€™s depiction of a Blade Runner inspired Gotham in Batman Begins - which sadly became far more generic in The Dark Knight - shows how a futuristic and highly polluted Gotham could look. Directors like J.J Abrams or James Cameron could undoubtedly do something pretty awesome with future Batman. Just keep George Lucas in a galaxy far, far away.
