10 Ways Trailers Are Secretly Ruining Movies

2. Including Scenes/Takes That Don't Appear In The Movie

I absolutely hate this, and while I appreciate that trailers are cut by post-production houses while a film is still being edited, it's frustrating when you see clips or entire scenes in a trailer that then don't make it into the final film. Though it can be a clever - if accidental - way of misdirecting viewers about what's coming up next, it usually just leaves us confused about why that scene didn't make it into the final cut. Recently, I was watching Scary Movie 5, for instance, and the best gag from the trailer (Charlie Sheen yelping, "I've come back from worse than this!") doesn't even make it in the final film; the trailer was literally funnier than the film! Another example that some might find nitpicky is that in the trailers for The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger's delivery of a number of lines is completely different from in the film, and given how many times I obsessively watched those trailers (and did impressions to my friends, of course), the inflexion in the final cut seemed disappointing and not how I had been led to believe it would sound. Notably, the "We kill the Batman" quip is much more cutesy in the trailer, whereas in the film it's more off-the-cuff and nonchalant.
