10 Ways Zoolander 2 Is Everything That’s Wrong With Hollywood

2. All The Best Jokes Were In The Trailer

These days, Hollywood marketing at the moment is giving so much away: Doomsday is in the Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice trailer; Terminator: Genisys€™ promo materials spoiled the John Connor Surprise; and Jurassic World€™s teasers showed us Velociraptors working with humans, to name just three high-profile examples. Zoolander 2 makes this same mistake, by putting all of its best jokes in the trailer. Audiences may have laughed heartily at the revelation that Justin Bieber is brutally murdered in Zoolander 2, if they hadn€™t seen it in all the trailers. Derek not being able to read the word €˜lame€™ could have had the same effect. Will Ferrell tearing off fake skin to reveal a terrible outfit underneath could have raised a chuckle, too. In fact, if they€™d kept Will Ferrell€™s involvement a secret, his appearance in the third act could have been a wonderful surprise. But no, all these funny moments were in the trailer, meaning that there were no majorly funny surprises in Zoolander 2. The root of the problem, of course, is that there weren€™t enough funny lines in the film as a whole; there was nothing else to put in the trailer instead. You could trace almost every point in this article back to the script, which is very lacking.
