David Lynch undoubtedly makes some of the weirdest films around. Although he hasnt made one since 2006s Inland Empire instead he seems content these days to preach about his beloved transcendental meditation he still sits as one of the Kings of cinematic weirdness. With the exception of The Straight Story (aptly named because it's his most straightforward offering) he seems to revel in chucking his audience into the deep end of the bizarre but always with something more meaningful going on beneath the surface. Since his bold debut in 1977 with Eraserhead, the Montana-born artist-turned-filmmaker has delivered a steady stream of the weird and wonderful across a variety of genres that are often hard to pin down as one thing or the other.
