10 Weird Jobs Hollywood Stars Had Before They Were Famous
3. Pen Salesman - Johnny Depp
If any actor can be said to embody the craft in its weirdest possible forms, Johnny Depp is the man - from Edward Scissorhands to the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, for better or worse he's made a name for himself playing freaks and weirdos. Before his chance encounter in Los Angeles with Nicholas Cage, which would land Depp a part in the Wes Craven horror movie A Nightmare On Elm Street and launch his acting career, he earned a living selling perhaps the most mundane item imaginable - the ballpoint pen. While fans might not have a good word to say about Cage's performance in The Wicker Man remake at the very least he helped bring another famous star into the limelight. Johnny Depp's star has certainly been waning in recent years - this year's movie Mordecai was the fifth consecutive release which has underperformed at the box office. It's unlikely Depp will be penniless any time soon and picking up the phone to sell pens - he's still worth a cool £350 million.
