10 Weird Rules That Only Ever Work In TV & Movies

1. No One Is Allowed A Rational Debate/Argument

"Wait! I can explain!"...is a sentence that is very rarely reciprocated. And even when it is, the person in question trying to relieve guilt or shame from themself is such a dumbass of a person they can't even rationally explain their circumstance.

Whether they are caught with a bloody knife in their hand, their jeans round their ankles as their partner's best friend helps dry out a stain, or their loved one has come home to find mountains of stolen cash on the kitchen table- "I can explain" is immediately met with handcuffs or someone walking out the room.

The problem with this gripe is that most of these scenarios hinge on people unrealistically jumping to conclusions; this becomes the catalyst for many plots in film and for us to cry 'realistic circumstance' into them does negate the point of the story entirely.

But at the same time, it's a confusing character trait/law to have in nearly every film. Where we tend to explain our decisions or reasonings, film and TV seems to only ignite those fires even more. Logic thinking and even empathy disappears in order for the screenplay to work.

It's only in fiction could these types of interactions take place.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
